Transition Tour
Rehabilitation is a partnership between V.E.S.I.D. and various community service programs, schools and employers.
P.S. 721X (Stevenson McSweeney Occupational Training Center) is a New
York City Board of Education School. Jose G.is a student transiting from P.S.
721X and preparing for the world of work. Jose enjoys people interaction and
has decided to pursue becoming a mailroom technician as his career path.
The school transition linkage coordinator for McSweeney O.T.C. referred Jose
G. to the assigned V.E.S.I.D. vocational rehabilitation counselor for vocational
assessment, training and job placement. She discusses Joses transition
plan, his needs and strengths.
The V.E.S.I.D. vocational rehabilitation counselor meets with Jose G. and
his mother in her office to provide counseling and guidance. She engages Jose
in career planning. Jose visited several mailroom training programs and decided
with the V.E.S.I.D. counselor that he would like to attend the Contemporary
Guidance Center.
Nine months later Jose G. graduates from the Contemporary Guidance Center. With
a certificate as a mailroom technician, Jose received assistance with preparing
his resume, employer expectations and dress for success. With these tools Jose
interviewed for several positions and was successfully hired as a mailroom
technician in a major lawfirm in Manhattan.
